Our mission in Apple Maps is to build the world's best map for our users. We’re seeking an experienced Science leader with deep expertise in Generative AI, Large Language Models, Deep Learning and Machine Learning. The ideal candidate will be capable of effectively guiding a team, collaborating cross functionally, and helping shape our product vision with application of state-of-the-art AI techniques. This highly technical role requires you to actively engage in different aspects of the work, from conceptualization and theoretical considerations to design and execution of projects.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ year experience in Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Large Language Models and applying these techniques at scale
  • 5+ year experience in a technical leadership role; leading all aspects of technically complex projects along with people management, scaling and growing technical teams
  • Experience with LLMs, multi-modal LLMs, foundation models
  • A strong track record of shipping products and publications / patents
  • Proven expertise in deep learning frameworks like Jax, PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Hands-on experience in Python and science libraries
  • Ability to collaborate closely with multi-functional teams
  • Superior communication and collaboration skills

Description

Apple Maps POI AIML team is seeking a creative and motivated leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working on challenging problems. As a leader on our team, you will own and drive initiatives for our next generation experiences by leveraging state-of-the-art applied machine learning and generative AI technologies. You will have full ownership of your projects and build end to end machine learning systems & modules. You'll collaborate with Software Engineers, Machine Learning Scientists, Statisticians and Data Scientists as well as Editorial teams across Maps organization. Responsibilities include: - Researching, proposing and leading innovative language modeling techniques to further language understanding capabilities in Apple Maps - Building novel applications of LLMs for next generation user experiences - Develop a long-term technical vision, propose a roadmap for team and set clear objectives - Analyzing the loss patterns in the current modeling stack and coming up with new insights, algorithms and techniques to resolve those losses with the goal of improving the top-line product metrics - Collaborating with various product teams across the company and partner with them to apply language understanding models to new product areas and use cases - Continuously improve the metrics and performance of models the team has launched in production by leveraging innovative ML techniques

Education & Experience

PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields.

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $210,900.00 and $316,900.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
