Join Apple and help us leave the world better than we found it. One of Apple’s R&D groups is currently seeking a Control Systems and Sensing Integration engineer. This engineer will support all build, manufacture and testing of systems with custom hardware that integrate control algorithms, actuators, and sensors. This highly multi-functional team is working hands on to develop unique motion based systems. We are looking for passionate and creative individuals to push the performance bounds of actuated systems.

Description

In this role you will partner with controls systems developers, motor, actuation, sensor and power electronics engineers to develop and manufacture systems, test stations and evaluation benches for pre-production hardware. You will work on the cutting edge of Apple’s latest motion system endeavors and build high visibility prototypes that lead to production systems! - Control system integration, analysis, and testing for actuators - Prototype, develop, bring-up, debug and characterize new control techniques on real hardware. - Perform tuning & calibration on one off actuated systems - Communicate progress multi-functionally (written, verbal, and presentation) - Perform failure analysis and problem solving - Develop measurement methods and equipment that are repeatable, reproducible, and automated to enable validation coverage of actuators and sensors - Travel to supplier facilities and manufacturing sites for production validation and issues resolution

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering or Computer Science or minimum of 7 years of proven experience
  • Strong fundamentals actuation, control systems design, and motor control.
  • Skilled in rapid integration, prototyping, calibration and testing of actuated and sensor systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems development, analysis and bringup.
  • Experience with C/C++ development
  • Strong in data analytics, root cause analysis with emphasis on data introspection
  • Experienced in test and debug of physical systems (sensors, actuators, algorithms)
  • Expert in Matlab and Simulink with direct experience with deployment on real time target systems such as dSPACE, Speedgoat, or National Instruments HW systems.
  • Experienced with hardware in the loop (HIL) automation
  • Experienced with serial communication protocols such as Ethernet, CAN, LIN, UART, SPI, I2C, BISS, etc…
  • Confident with source control (eg. GIT) on multi developer projects
  • Proficient at English(Listen, Oral, Written, Read)

  • Experience in state estimation deployed on real time hardware
  • Experience in sensor calibration for IMUs, Encoder, Optical Sensors
  • Experience on control system design, modeling and implementation-moto
