The Services and Infrastructure team, in Software Engineering, is looking for an experienced Storage Engineer to oversee NAS and SAN storage in Munich, Germany. S&I is a group of system engineers with a diverse skillset that form the foundation of the build system that is responsible for assembling Apple’s software products and operating systems. This role will focus on storage operations, hardware install and maintenance, disaster recovery, emergency response, and managing projects in a fast-paced environment requiring rapidly shifting priorities. Strong attention to detail, documentation, and communications skill, are key to success in this position.

Key Qualifications

  • Extensive Experience in storage administration in a large environment (1,000+ servers minimum)
  • Large scale NetApp NFS storage system administration
  • Medium scale SAN, CIFS and Windows storage administration
  • Background in Unix and Linux
  • Administering POSIX permissions and Access Control Lists on macOS, Windows, and Unix platforms
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • EMC Isilon OneFS, EMC ExtremeIO, and Tintri storage expertise
  • Storage solutions for large scale VMware vSphere environments
  • Experience with object based storage solutions
  • Configuring and supporting Kerberos with NFS
  • Familiarity with shell scripting and python


Standard system and storage administration and engineering duties Consulting with peers, network engineers and support teams to troubleshoot performance and access issues on an NFS storage cluster Developing automation to handle export and ACL management Planning and driving maintenance work with clear communication with impacted teams Consulting with engineering teams to plan storage requirements and recommendations for future projects Handling off-hours support requests because a system went offline

Education & Experience

Bachelor degree in System Administration, or equivalent experience.
