Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish. Dynamic, inquisitive people and inspiring, innovative technologies are the norm here. Join us to help deliver the next groundbreaking Apple product. The Wireless Communication group at Apple is a rapidly growing, high energy, results-oriented team. We are looking for highly motivated and committed engineers to join our exciting team of innovators. In this role, you will be a key member of the cellular system engineering team working on physical-layer development, with a focus on millimeter-wave beam managemen In this technical role, you will be responsible for scoping and development of millimeter-wave beam management physical-layer features in 5G-NR as part of cellular system engineering team working on pioneering wireless products.

Key Qualifications

  • Solid foundations in signal processing and communication theory, such as OFDMA and multi-antenna techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with physical-layer architecture and porting concepts to FW-ready designs.
  • Experience with Matlab, C/C++ and/or Python for concept development, modeling, and link-level simulation.
  • Strong teamwork spirit, respectful of diverse viewpoints, open to adapting ideas based on technical debates, sharing credit, focused on getting the best out of collective thoughts for achieving common goals.
  • Flexibility and agility to adapt to fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • Strong sense of accountability for collective success, sensitivity to the needs of projects/team and ability to proactively identify white spaces & steer stakeholders toward closure.

Description

In this technical role, you will be working on cutting-edge beam management algorithm design and implementation for 5G-NR FR2. You are expected to be well-versed in 5G-NR FR2 with proven experience in physical-layer architecture and algorithm design. You will serve as a bridge between systems engineering and firmware (FW) implementation, fulfilling two inter-related functions — (a) translate algorithms and concepts to appropriate FW implementation and interfaces, and (b) work closely with systems engineering to assess design modifications necessary to accommodate FW limitations. Multiple iterations across (a) and (b) are typically needed to arrive at an efficient and performance effective design. As this is an intense cross-functional role, you are expected to have excellent communication and mediation skills.

Education & Experience

M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years of working experience or Ph.D. in relevant field with 3+ years of experience. Candidates with more experience will be considered for suitably senior positions. Apple is an Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity. We also take affirmative action to offer employment and advancement opportunities to all applicants, including minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Additional Requirements

  • In addition, candidates with strengths in one or more of the following areas will be given preference;
  • • Experience in wireless beamforming research and development, including collaboration with HW/FW/SW towards product commercialization.
  • • Familiarity with RF, phased arrays, AGC, and inter-chip communication & control.
  • • Familiarity with cellular user equipment (UE) baseband modem architecture, including interfaces among subsystems.
  • • Knowledge of cellular communication standards, in particular 5G-NR RAN1/RAN4, including PHY/MAC/RRC procedures.
  • • Experience in chip bring-up and conducted/over-the-air lab/field verifications.
