We are seeking an experienced News Editor for Apple News in Canada, to help identify and deliver the best in breaking national, global and local news. The position requires a proactive, adaptable teammate with a strong affinity to technology and comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+years Newsroom experience in editorial, ideally with a digital focus.
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Excellent understanding of the depth and breadth of software, both iOS and Mac, and an aptitude for technology.
  • Shown ability to handle schedules and work effectively with cross-functional teams under daily deadlines.
  • Mastery of UI principles and best practices.
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships both with internal colleagues and external partners.
  • Resourceful, creative and results-oriented with high energy.
  • Ability to work evening shifts consistently.


In this role, you will be tasked with curating featured content, topics, and channels in the News App. You will have outstanding news judgement, the ability to thrive in deadline-oriented situations, while tracking regional trends and breaking news from both newspaper and magazine publishers. We are looking for an ambitious, detail-focused individual with an obsession for great content and a gift for writing accurate and engaging display copy. You live and breathe news and cultural trends in a wide range of topics, including politics, entertainment, finance, and technology, and you are knowledgable around multiple methods of news delivery, including text, pictures and video. You should also be willing and able to work regular evening shifts from your home office. Skills essential to this role are: using analytics and data to inform editorial decisions; outstanding communication; expertise in mobile applications and the social tools available to track breaking news. You have a strong understanding of good user-interface design principles, content analytics, experience working with a content management system, and a real passion for this broad and evolving space. You will also be equally comfortable working within a team, and also operating independently while using online tools to stay in close contact with colleagues. This position is based in British Columbia or Alberta.

Education & Experience

University degree in journalism, communication, or a related field. Post-Graduate is a plus.
