SPG is seeking a mechanical design manager to lead a small team that is responsible for conceptual design, detailed design and release of various hardware types including mechanisms, actuators, sensors and other mechanical / electrical assemblies.

Key Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge base of manufacturing process capabilities and materials
  • Guru level spacial reasoning, 3D CAD, GD&T, drawing skills
  • Ability to manipulate and exploit PDM and PLM systems for the purpose of controlling design data appropriately and facilitating many CAD users working concurrently on complex projects
  • Design expertise specific to electronic and high voltage systems - PCBA, connectorization, wire harness, creepage and clearance
  • Leadership ability in terms of strong interpersonal, collaboration and influence skills
  • Project management software and vendor management skills
  • Significant projects accomplished in performance and safety critical industries such as: Aircraft, military apparatus, industrial/medical robotics, etc
  • Authoring of requirements, analysis such as FMEA, design of verification plans
  • Track record of leading direct reports or matrixed engineers effectively and positively to execute large projects
  • Knowledge of the patent application process and track record of creating patentable design innovations

Description

Apply broad experience, deep design expertise and leadership skill to develop cutting edge hardware for low to high volume products. This role involves a mixture of managing and doing - the ideal candidate is capable and excited about doing individual technical work in addition to leading the team.

Education & Experience

Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with design focus - M.S. or PhD preferred > 10 years professional product design experience > 5 years managerial accomplishments
