The Special Projects Group (SPG) is seeking a motor mechanical designer for the actuation team. This person will be responsible for all mechanical design aspects of the motor, including stator, rotor, and integration into challenging product packages. This includes working very closely with electromagnetic modeling experts to refine motor parameters to cost, package, and performance targets. Once locked, this person will be the owner of product interface analysis and definition, detailed structural and thermal analysis, test and validation activities, and delivery of the motor for system integration. Additionally, this person will use their production experience to contribute to key cost modeling development.

Key Qualifications

  • Must have mechanical motor design experience
  • Must have motor design for manufacturability experience, including lamination stamping + stacking and winding technology and equipment
  • Must have high volume motor design experience
  • Experience qualifying custom motor design performance and reliability
  • Experience generating clear, manufacturable part drawings, and communicating requirements to vendors
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative team environment, and being self-motivated to drive issues and designs to close
  • Ability to articulate and defend design decisions in a data driven environment
  • Comfort and flexibility working in a quickly changing environment

Education & Experience

Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years motor mechanical design experience Additional motor manufacturing experience highly preferred
