The Apple Cloud Services (ACS) team builds and provides systems and infrastructure that fuel Apple’s services (such as iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps). We are the foundation on which Apple’s software developers build the products that our customers love. The services that Apple Cloud Services runs are BIG. Operating at our scale, across multiple geographically distributed data centers and servicing hundreds of millions of users presents outstanding challenges. Our SREs solve these problems using data, teamwork, and their own expertise. SREs at Apple own the full infrastructure stack; from device driver performance debugging to content delivery network traffic management — our responsibilities are both broad and deep. As the Site Leader, you will need to establish both trust and credibility with the immediate team, local partners as well as those in the other geographies. Whilst not only being technically strong and willing to work in a hands on role, you will also thrive in a role where you are responsible for making decisions to shape how this team operates as they grow. Future proofing the team as it continues to scale whilst ensuring the highest level of work and support to the business is maintained, will be key to success in this position. Our team is collaborative; we work closely with the development teams we support to deliver the best results for Apple. We think critically and strive to balance the best solution with the need to get things done for each engineering challenge we face. As the SRE Site Leader, you will further build out a technical team in India and lead all aspects of site reliability inline with our goal to make Bangalore a valuable and strategic partner to our sites in US and UK. We are looking for an individual who still enjoys and is capable of contributing technically, so to best work and engage with the team and key partners, whilst also being able to partner with stakeholders and, lead and ensure the foundations are in place for a team to produce work of excellence at scale.

Key Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in an environment operating at scale and with distributed teams.
  • 5+ years of experience managing large organizations (30+ people) with overall relevant experience upwards of 20 years.
  • Experience in managing and scaling distributed systems in a public, private, or hybrid cloud environment.
  • A track record of automation first attitude.
  • Understanding of distributed systems architecture, OS fundamentals, fault tolerance, and at least one mainstream programming language.
  • Experience with deploying, managing and monitoring new and existing services, platforms, and application stacks.
  • Leadership experience hiring and mentoring top talent


This role's responsibilities include : - Lead and grow multiple SRE teams committed to ensuring Apple’s services “just work”. - Contribute and influence cross-functionally on process and product decisions and directions. - Evangelize and establish SRE as a key partner for development teams. - Drive continuous improvement by leveraging data. - Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and integrity proven through clear communication and collaboration. - Contribute to the overall vision and strategy for ACS SRE organization. - Lead automation and other software development efforts targeted at resiliency. - Manage relationships and work with partner teams both within and outside ACS. - Foster strong collaboration between globally distributed teams. - Manage a team of managers to deliver resilient architecture for cloud services.

Education & Experience

BE, B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent is required.
