The Database Engineering team is responsible for providing Engineering Solutions to a large fleet of mission critical databases under Data Services at Apple. We are looking for Database Automation Engineers to help build innovative automation tools and applications that enable us to deploy, maintain, monitor and scale fast-paced, sophisticated and distributed database environments and services. You will interact with Database owners and Engineers to design, deploy and manage top class and modern automation solutions. Key Qualifications

  • 5+ Years of work experience in IT Industry, with strong experience in platform automation both on-prem and in Cloud
  • Proven expertise in automation, scripting and development using Shell Scripting and Python programming
  • Experience in implementing complex technical database automation solutions including tools/applications/scripts/bots for large scale database infrastructure
  • Experience in handling architectural and design considerations ensuring scalability, high availability, resilience, security and performance
  • Ability to learn quickly and deliver code of highest quality and standards
  • Good understanding of Relational Database concepts (Oracle, Mysql, etc) and SQL, PL/SQL
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix internals, Systems/Application Design & Architecture
  • Experience with Public Cloud Platforms (GCP & AWS) and automation using Terraform, Cloud formation, etc.
  • Good understanding of web services (REST) and development of APIs and/or Data Pipelines
  • Experience with Version Control System (Git) and CI/CD Tools, such as Puppet, Ansible
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL technologies is a plus
  • Knowledge of frontend development is a plus

Description

If so, we are looking to hire extraordinary individuals to join the Global Data Services team as a Database Automation Engineer. The ideal candidate will work with multi-functional teams, locally and remotely, to design, develop, and manage Automation Tools/Solutions to support our massive DB Infrastructure. The expectations from the job position would be: Design, build and maintain internal tools for a high performance and highly available database infrastructure. Work closely with Database Engineering teams in understanding automation requirements for their regular BAU needs, strategic initiatives, operational readiness, engineering standards and designs. Identify avenues of automation and author scripts, tools and applications for implementing automation on scale. Develop and support Platform-as-a-Service solutions (DBaaS) involving AWS RDS, MySQL, MongoDB, etc database technologies on-prem and in the cloud. Design and develop self service tools, applications and automation bots for productivity improvement. Work with leadership team in designing monitoring dashboards and reports for data visualisation, as necessary. Follow industry best practices and methodologies to assess the effectiveness of current implementations and drive change as required for continuous improvement. Take ownership for availability and reliability of automation services for our fast-paced, complex and distributed database environments supporting OLTP systems across multiple platforms. Troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure, implement solutions that are massively scalable, while managing multiple customer groups. Participate in technology discussions with internal stakeholders and ensure timely delivery of projects. Help and mentor other team members including DB engineers, as necessary.

Education & Experience

BE/B.Tech or ME/M.Tech in Computer Science / related fields or equivalent work experience
