Apple is seeking a highly motivated, high-energy Research Engineer to explore new emerging consumer technologies. You should have a deep understanding of a wide range of disciplines, physics of wave propagation in optics, acoustics, lasers theory/applications, and analytical mind to help explore/investigate new concepts to expand our user experience. This highly impactful role requires strong skills in math, statistical mechanics, physics, familiarity experimental methods, and also excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Qualifications

  • M.S., Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Industry Experience preferred
  • Individual with strong training in physics, with analytical bent, and readiness & ability to learn and explore new areas
  • Strong analytical skills in the area of scalar wave theory, partial differential equations, perturbation theory, nonlinear analysis techniques in wave propagation for acoustics and optics.
  • At ease with the use of computational tools such as COMSOL (electromagnetic/wave optics/acoustics/aero-acoustics), Lumerical (optical electromagnetic), K-wave (matlab tool), or similar tools.
  • Able to formulate/create/set-up simulations, experiments, measurement instrument scripting, data acquisition, perform characterization, and publish/analyze/present data
  • Be able to handle dynamic environment, certain level of multi-tasking while staying organized, and communicate/presentation skills

Description

- Knowledgable/Experience on statistical mechanics, quantum theory as applied to gases. - Knowledgable/Experience on optical coherence, polarization, dispersion, speckle theories. - Familiarity/Experience in one or more areas such as laser spectroscopy, laser range measurement, ultrasonic imaging - Knowledgable on signal processing/communication theories and related tools in Matlab (coding, modulation, and demodulation) - Familiarity with photonics semiconductor lasers and resonators (such as ring and disk)

Education & Experience

- M.S., Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Industry Experience preferred
