As a Sr. RF/mmW Hardware Characterization Engineer at Apple, you will develop cutting edge characterization systems and contribute to the design and implementation of next generation wireless radio solutions in future Apple products. As a RF/mmW Hardware Characterization Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, integrating, and testing advanced conducted and OTA characterization setups for next generation wireless technologies.

Key Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in the following areas:
  • Fundamentals of digital communications, wireless protocols, transceiver design, semiconductor electronics, and applied electromagnetic
  • Probe station systems, custom probe card design, wafer-level and board-level measurements, and TRL, LRM, and SOLT calibration techniques, and advanced probe test fixtures
  • RF/mmW test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, AWGs, load/source pull tuner systems, compact ranges, anechoic chambers, shield boxes, one box testers, and call boxes
  • RF performance criteria and concepts such as EIRP, G/T, TRP, TIS, noise figure, sensitivity/desense, phase noise, EVM, ACLR, spectral mask, spurious, harmonics, intermodulation, s-parameters, Smith charts, and tuning networks
  • Hardware bring-up, bench evaluation, and solving problems involving general lab equipment
  • Wideband characterization and modeling of dielectric material properties
  • Schematic, layout, and signal integrity design tool suites from Cadence
  • Linear cascade analysis tools such as ADS, MWO, or MATLAB
  • EM analysis tools: HFSS, MWS, Sonnet, or Momentum
  • Programming and scripting languages such as C, Java, Python, MySQL, or MATLAB
  • We will want to speak if you have expose to:
  • RF system design, requirements flow-down, link budget analysis, cascade analysis, and propagation modeling
  • Front end architectures and component technologies employed for WiFi/BT and cellular systems, including emerging technologies using millimeter-wave spectrum
  • Phased array system principles, beamforming, calibration, and array analysis/synthesis
  • PCB substrate design, material sets and properties, and manufacturing processes
  • Design, simulation, and validation of lumped and distributed passive networks, including transmission lines, transitions, couplers, splitters, resonators, baluns, and radiating elements
  • Planar radiating element implementations, concept of operation, and test methods
  • General EE fundamentals, embedded systems, micro-controllers, voltage regulation and conversion, oscillators, high speed communications (PCIe, DP, USB3, HSIC), low speed interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, GPIB, SCPI, SPMI)
  • Mechanical design and modeling tools such as Solidworks, NX, or SpaceClaim
  • Statistics and data visualization tools such as JMP
  • Production assembly and test flows for consumer products
  • Demonstrated skills in the following areas:

Description

Design conducted and OTA measurement systems and test plans Execute measurement campaigns, analyze, and report data Procure and validate best-in-class instruments and maintain test equipment vendor relations Collaborate with design and automation teams to align on test plans and measurement capability and uncertainty Develop block diagrams, schematics, layouts, BOMs, and documentation for test systems and methods Deploy, validate, and manage characterization setups with external vendors Prepare and present technical information and status reports to executives and program management Support up to 15% travel to collaborate with international teams, support factory builds, and manage vendors

Education & Experience

BS EE/Physics with 10 years of relevant work experience. MS EE is preferred.
