Your dedication to cross-disciplinary collaboration will help develop groundbreaking technologies, such as iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. By crafting these distinct, holistic user experiences, you’ll continue to uphold and advance the excellence people expect from Apple devices. The Platform Kernel team within Apple's Core OS organization is looking for an exceptional engineer to work on state-of-the art kernel technology for macOS and iOS. Working on a core technology for Darwin, you will have the opportunity to have a major impact on the design and implementation of Apple's operating systems.

Key Qualifications

  • Deep and current understanding of the C programming language
  • Programming in Intel x86 and/or ARM assembly (64bit preferred)
  • Understanding of modern CPU design (out of order, superscalar)
  • Low level debugging experience
  • Genuine passion for kernel technology and systems engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware platforms & processor architectures
  • Demonstrated creative, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Highly professional, with the ability to deliver solid work on tight schedules
  • Excellent collaborative skills including written and verbal communication


Work with a highly skilled engineering team in the design and implementation of kernel technologies Drive product features and specifications on Apple’s product line Bring up, verification, and debug of new hardware platforms Work with cross-functional teams to support product requirements

Education & Experience

BS in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience/skills

Additional Requirements

  • Previous experience with UNIX kernel engineering (macOS, Linux, BSD, Solaris)
  • Experience with multiple hardware architectures (Intel x86, ARM, MIPS, PPC)
  • Experience with JTAG or ITP debugging
  • Ability to understand board schematics
