Optics Metrology Engineer

Do something different! Apple is looking for a world class engineer that can help identify and incubate new display technologies. You will work with both suppliers and internal teams at Apple to shape the display related technologies that go into Apple products. A successful candidate will not only need to identify new metrology techniques and architect custom measurement solutions, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. This position is focusing on the metrology to measure characteristics of new display technologies and complex optical elements for future Apple products. The team features a diverse engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self motivated. A successful candidate needs to be a flexible thinker and be able to problem solve outside of their respective technical area. - Engineering background in optics or electronics
- Prior experience with metrology systems for imaging optics
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of display technologies
- Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing.
Define and identify metrology techniques and equipment to measure the key characteristics of new display technologies and complex optical elements Build custom metrology hardware for new techniques and identify available equipment for measuring key characteristics Analyze metrology systems to identify accuracy limitations Write operating procedures for metrology techniques Define custom metrology solutions for complex optical systems, and effectively communicate their limitations and capabilities to cross-functional teams and high level management. Shepard metrology technologies into both external supplier and internal product roadmaps
Education & Experience
M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences, Imaging, EE, or equivalent. 2+ years of experience in related fields.
