Apple is looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join the Input Devices Product Design group. You will be part of a cross-functional design team responsible for conceiving, designing, evaluating, and producing exciting new products. Through finite element analysis you will help to optimize those designs and understand their potential failure modes. Particular emphasis will be placed on analyzing mechanism behavior, actuator and sensor analysis and dynamic events such as system drop and acoustic response.

Key Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in static and dynamic structural FEA analysis
  • Expertise in solid mechanics, mechanics of materials, and dynamics Experience building and calibrating non-linear material models
  • Expertise in polymer and metallic material behaviors
  • Experience with accelerometer and strain gauge instrumentation
  • Self motivated to identify and close design issues
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills
  • Passion for creating innovative, high quality products
  • Desire to work in a team environment
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Abaqus, Ansys, and/or Comsol
  • Experience modeling actuators, sensors, and mechanisms Experience modeling elastomers
  • Experience modeling plastics through yield and failure
  • Experience modeling the failure of glass or ceramics
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis
  • Experience in product design a plus but not a requirement Proficiency with high volume manufacturing processes

Description

You will be fully integrated with the Product Design team from the earliest stages, analyzing and informing the mechanical design of cutting-edge products. Computer industry experience not required; serious consideration will be given to qualified candidates from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace or other fields with relevant technology and development models

Education & Experience

BS in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, or similar concentration; MS or PhD preferred.
