Our Transducer Engineering team designs speakers that are integrated into all Apple products. We are a diverse team of acoustics and vibration experts, accomplished listeners, and creative problem solvers. We work with other acoustic engineers as well as mechanical engineers, industrial designers, audio tuners and components suppliers to conceptualize and create transducers that enhance the audio experience for our customers.
- 3+ years of transducer design experience, single suspension micro speaker design preferred
- Good understanding of loudspeaker design methods, materials and assembly techniques
- Experience with 3D solid modelling and meshing tools
- Working knowledge of Finite Element Method and/or Boundary Element Method simulation tools for mechanics, acoustics and magnetic circuits (eg. Comsol)
- Working knowledge of lumped-parameter simulation methods and tools, as implemented in either equivalent circuit simulators (PSpice, Micro Cap, MATLAB, etc.) or System Dynamics simulators (Simulink)
You will have responsibilities spanning all aspects of transducer development which includes designing and modeling transducers, including the magnet, voice coil, surround, piston and other structural parts per acoustic design requirements and mechanical system limitations. Your role includes creating models of acoustic transducers (earpieces and loudspeakers) and their surrounding cavities in products to demonstrate the impact of geometry on the linear and non-linear acoustic performance through computer simulation results. You’ll be working directly with our mechanical design teams to identify optimal transducer integration methods. You’ll be collaborating with high-volume transducer manufacturers, to oversee proper production of transducers per design specification – part of this responsibility is to audit module-level final assembly at contract manufacturers, to verify our custom transducers are assembled and tested to meet our design and quality requirements.
Education & Experience
Most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Acoustics or an equivalent field (physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, etc.), but if you’ve followed a different path to expertise in acoustics and transducer design that’s fine too.
