Key Qualifications

  • BS/MS in engineering (materials, mechanical, chemical or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years of experience in development of finishes for mechanical components – preferably in a hands-on-role with cosmetic enclosures
  • Experience establishing and validating color, cosmetic and reliability requirements/specifications for cosmetic finishes
  • Working knowledge of mechanical quality and reliability concepts, supplier management and general manufacturing operations
  • Experience leading advanced technology development activities resulting in successful implementation of novel manufacturing techniques.
  • Expertise relating material properties to design requirements, process drivers, and test methodologies
  • Ability to lead a development program to a schedule from a research phase into manufacturing execution in a matrixed organization
  • Expertise using advanced analytical techniques (such as XRF, SEM, EDS, FTIR, TEM, & XPS) to characterize finish quality or troubleshoot failure modes. Surface characterization skills
  • Project management experience and a solid understanding of problem solving tools including design of experiments, root cause analysis and statistical tools
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to delivering high quality results in a fast paced environment
  • History developing finishes for cosmetic surfaces


Provide day-to-day direction for highly technical team including feedback about technical objectives, program requirements, and team member performance. Regularly meet with leaders from Apple’s Industrial Design, Product Design, and Operations teams to set goals and provide regular updates for development and execution activities. Present analysis to key decision makers that will be used to make commercial and design commitments. Organize cross-functional teams to ensure that resources are aligned to successfully implement high volume processes against demanding schedules. Collaborate with leading equipment and process manufacturing partners to create step improvements in manufacturing capabilities. When necessary, coordinate investigations leading to robust solutions to complex manufacturing challenges. Compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process and part specifications to balance unparallel quality with scalable yields Evaluate and communicate yields of new and existing processes. Drive actions to close gaps between actual yield and target yield. Work directly with overseas manufacturers executing high volume solutions that meet demanding specifications. Periodically review status of key initiatives and technical roadmaps to ensure alignment with long term design direction and commercial objectives. Collaborate with outstanding equipment and process manufacturing partners to build next-generation processes and test limits of process capabilities Plan and execute studies to confirm process capability to achieve technical goals for high volume programs Able to travel (domestic/international) ~ 30%

Education & Experience

BS in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent; MS preferred
