As a member of Appleʼs Global Infrastructure Operations group, you are responsible for supporting Appleʼs Global Compute Infrastructure, maximizing uptime for services such as Pay, iCloud, Music, TV, Maps, News, FaceTime, Siri and more. GIO serves as the central point for monitoring, event management, and coordination/implementation of resolution efforts. We are looking for a highly motivated Systems Engineer who has the skills and experience to support Apple's Global Infrastructure. You will engage with GIO Leadership, internal customer partners, and international partners in the UK and India to deliver high availability, and highly efficient operations services. This role will be heavily involved in driving key goals in the areas of automation, process improvement/standardization, technical development, monitoring, and operational efficiency. Our organization is growing, and this Engineer will work along with Leadership to devise and execute strategies aimed at mentoring and growing the skills of our Systems Analysts/Administrators.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years Linux/UNIX systems administration in medium to large environments.(1,000+ hosts) authoritative knowledge of Red Hat-based Linux
  • 10+ years of system administration in cloud stack or VMware environments
  • 6+ years of container orchestration and management technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, CRI-O, ContainerD)
  • UNIX-related software/scripting development in one or more of the following: Perl, Python, Ruby, shell
  • LPIC-2 or RHCSE preferred
  • Kubernetes cert preferred
  • Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Git
  • Self-starter, motivated to learn in a dynamic environment and comfortable in a team
  • Collaboration with the various teams within Apple to identify, scope, constraints, dependencies, risk management and deliver global capabilities.
  • Good interpersonal and prioritization skills and you have a real passion for learning
  • Experience in articulating technical details, risks, and opportunities to Executive Staff
  • Ability to detect nuances in technical details and the dedication to dig into details and understand systems deeply
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, able to deliver multiple projects of varying lengths, while meeting quality standards and deadlines
  • In addition to the required technical skills, this position also demand good social skills and an individual who enjoys the multifaceted nature of Appleʼs environment
  • Ability to maintain composure and customer-service focus in highly stressful situations
  • Maintains the highest ethical standards and integrity.

You will work closely with managers to develop the technical skills across the GIO team Provide on-call support Handle compute issues on a fleet of over 1million devices Run and perform patching on the fleet of devices running Linux OS Troubleshoot, isolate and resolve container orchestration/management issues, specifically Docker, Kubernetes and Mesos Handle various Configuration Management tools, such as Puppet, Chef, etc Configure, operate and troubleshoot various storage technologies and drive formats, such as RAID, NFS, LVM, LUN, EXT, XFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel Handle clustering configurations/technologies, such as Mesos, Hadoop, etc Oversee various authentication and security software and services, such as LDAP, PAM, SSSD, SSH, SUDO, OD, SSH Keys, Yubi Keys, etc Configure, operate and correct DNS configurations, such as A, AAAA, MX, PTR, CNAME, etc Recognize, identify and respond to failure trends due to hardware, software or configurations to assist or isolate a potentially larger problem Handle load balancing technologies on both Appliances or Built as a service on various hardware platforms Configure, administer and correct Virtual technologies, including: VMWare, KVM, XEN, etc Administer Virtual environments with the use of UI interfaces, such as VC, DCUI, CLI, etc Configure, handle and fix VMWare technologies like: vSphere: vMotion, vCenter, vSwitch, HA, Fault Tolerance, Virtual Data Centers, Snapshots, etc
