Apple is looking for a CAD Simulation Engineer to develop and drive research in measurement, analysis, and modeling to inform the design of hardware products from a human interaction perspective.

Key Qualifications

  • -Experience with programmatic 3D mesh/point-cloud analysis/visualization/simulation software (e.g., Python Trimesh, PyMesh, C++ CGAL, PCL, VTK/ITK)
  • Experience with human body-derived scan/meshes (e.g., photogrammetry, CT, MRI)
  • Experience in developing and programming structural/material deformation Finite Element Model solvers
  • Deep knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling tools
  • Equipped with a strong foundation in linear algebra, computational geometry, robotics controls systems, or computer graphics
  • Able to work independently and excel in a dynamic, hands-on, cross-functional and creative corporate environment
  • Has an energetic personality with excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Values attention to detail, patience, and aesthetic sensibility
  • Preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with physiology/anatomy
  • Experience with designing user-studies that leverage motion capture, photogrammetry, force/pressure transducers and other electro-mechanical sensors/systems
  • Passionate about human-computer interaction and user-centered design
  • Experience with medical/comfort/fit/biomechanics/ergonomics research for informing commercial products
  • Experience with computer vision and machine learning


As a CAD Simulation Engineer, you will support all phases of product/technology development in the context of physical user-device interaction (functional anthropometry). You will work closely with cross-functional teams (product design, industrial design, engineering teams) to define and drive research that will directly affect and improve the product and end user experience. Specific tasks include but are not limited to: Develop meaningful human-device computational models to accurately simulate product interaction Create novel tools and expand on the current internal capabilities of analysis techniques for processing and handling 3D scan data Develop statistical analysis and visualization tools to understand and distill the diversity and variability of human morphology to cross functional partners Understand the functional questions from internal and cross-functional partners and develop actionable analysis to inform product level decisions and tradeoffs

Education & Experience

8 years post Bachelor's degree with a concentration or extensive work in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Computational Geometry, Computer Graphics or equivalent.
