The thin film group is looking for a near-line metrology engineer who will support materials process engineering. The candidate will have a background in optical metrology, defect inspection and mechanical testing of materials and statistical methods. This position will involve interaction with all aspects of process, test, and validation of advanced materials.

Key Qualifications

  • - Practical experience in development of high throughput defect inspection and correlation to device performance and failure modes
  • - Experience with statistical and data analysis software such as JMP, Minitab, Python
  • - Statistical analysis and formal problem solving tools (GR&R, DOE, ANOVA, FMEA, RCA, etc.)
  • - Understanding of materials characterization and FA techniques
  • - Experience working with instrument vendors to improve measurement repeatability, tool-to-tool matching and correlation to first principles
  • - Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to determine root-cause analysis
  • - History of effectively organizing, planning and executing engineering experiments from start to finish
  • - Ability to prioritize and execute on multiple projects simultaneously
  • - Good communication, presentation and teamwork skills are essential


- Develop, run and analyze DOEs to improve processes. Work closely with process engineering to identify CTQ’s, understand & reduce variation - Develop optical and mechanical based near line metrology and inspection to feedback and improve materials process capability - Own near-line methods and feedback systems; train technicians to execute measurements - Establish systems and procedures to quickly identify issues and monitor for excursions - Apply failure analysis procedures to identify the failure location and root causes - Identify new instruments and techniques for near-line defect and mechanical metrology - Prepare project updates and goals, travel to suppliers, manufacturing sites, conferences as needed

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering or related field, M.S. preferred
