The Special Projects Group (SPG) is seeking a Power Electronics Design Lead Engineer for the Hardware Engineering Team. The candidate will be responsible for overall electrical design to work cross-functionally to determining requirements, build & test planning, system architecture, and to lead a multi-disciplined team taking a design from concept to mass production. The candidate will be exploring and developing cutting edge products and features that have never been done before. The position requires a hands-on approach, a can-do attitude, a passion for exploring diverse aspects of electrical design, excellent multi-disciplined teamwork, and a willingness to take on risk.
Key Qualifications
- Typically requires 5+ years of analog, mixed signal, and power design experience and 3+ years leading the electrical design of a power electronics product
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Spice, MATLAB / Simulink, PLECS
- Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power amplifiers, programmable power supplies, function generators, power analyzers, electronic loads, logic and spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems
- Familiar with design concepts for EMC
- Self-motivated and experience leading a cross-functional team effort
- Ability to articulate design issues in quantitative terms both verbally and with documentation to a diverse audience
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to use statistical techniques
- Must possess good understanding of thermals, mechanical, and packaging
- Experience working with domestic and overseas manufacturers preferred
- Consumer electronics experience not required, serious consideration will be given to qualified candidates from medical, automotive, and aerospace
- Flexibility and comfortable working in a quickly changing environment
- Knowledge of 3 phase inverter / motor control and high voltage design preferred
Description
Define product-level design requirements and system architecture
Review circuit design for suitability of meeting functional requirements
Review sub-component specifications
Support analyses such as DFMEA, FMEA, FIT, and WCCA
Lead the development and execution of test plans and failure analyses
Data analysis generated from factory builds and lab experiments
Review and advise team analysis and resulting decisions
Present design, test results, and failure analyses to a group of cross-functional engineers and management levels
Generating and accepting constructive feedback in brainstorming and design review forums
Overall delivery of the functional hardware to the next integration level
This position will require domestic and international travel (10%+)
Education & Experience
Education: BS and higher in Electrical Engineering required
