The machine translation (MT) team is looking for a senior leader to spearhead our efforts in the space of data-efficient approaches to state-of-the-art neural machine translation. We are looking for a hands-on manager that is passionate about building a team that operates at the intersection of machine learning and data.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in the space of MT, ASR or more general NLP with an overlap in data engineering and/or science
  • Machine learning (especially deep learning) expert
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Excellent people and project management skills
  • Familiarity with big data platforms, tooling (Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Spark, Solr, etc.) and data analytics


The data efficiency team’s main focus is on methods that can alleviate the requirement for very large amounts of supervised ML training data to reach state-of-the-art MT accuracy. The team responsibilities stretch from novel learning paradigms and model architectures to data augmentation and data harvesting strategies. ML data management and analytics aspects also play an important role. The ideal candidate for this position is hands-on with a track record for building successful teams and defining efficient processes that sit at the intersection ML and data. A background in language technologies such as MT or ASR is strongly desired. As the leader of the MT data efficiency team, the candidate will steer close collaborations with many partner teams in the MT and the larger AI/ML organization. The ability to identify key requirements and to successfully deliver on solutions is key. The successful candidate therefore is a team player with excellent communication skills and a sound technical grasp.

Education & Experience

MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science or related fields
