Simulation Development Engineer - Optical Engineering

Santa Clara Valley (Cupertino), California, United States

Role Number:200165864
Apple designs consumer electronics that have touched millions and changed the way people interact with electronic devices around the world. The Optical Engineering team within Hardware Test Engineering (HWTE) is seeking a Simulation Development Engineer who will develop state-of-the-art end-to-end modeling and simulation solutions with cross-functional team members for our optical imaging systems that can facilitate test station/ instrumentation design and provide early feedback to Apple product design. This engineer will also be responsible for validation, application, and scale up of the simulation tools.

Key Qualifications

  • Programming Experience (Python, Matlab, C/C++)
  • Understanding of imaging systems (camera, display, etc...)
  • Experience with image processing algorithm design and implementation
  • Ability to model and simulate mechanical and optical systems using Zemax, Code V, etc...
  • Fluent in both oral and written English
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent judgment; a self-directed, proactive
  • approach to tackling problems and working through impediment and an ability to generate trust and build alliances with co-workers
  • Desired Skills

  • Experience with camera hardware and Image Signal Processor (ISP) technologies Experience with optics and display technologies
  • Experience with complex coordinate systems and geometric transformations
  • Understanding of camera geometric calibration
  • Ideal Candidate
  • Our optical systems support labs, factories, and processes that run close to 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in sometimes non-ideal conditions. Creating instrumentation and processes that perform at a high level in this environment requires understanding complex system interactions collaboratively solving problems. The ideal candidate is someone that:
  • Is always striving to learn something new
  • Is a self-starter and can work autonomously with high levels of success
  • Is excited about solving new challenging problems with innovative solutions
  • Has experience presenting ideas and building consensus with teammates
  • Thrives in an environment of smart people and loves to challenge the status quo
  • Estimated Travel
  • Up to 10% international travel
