You should be prepared to push against assumptions and help build the tools and prototypes that allow for new designs to emerge. Although you may be a dyed-in-the-wool engineer, you will be living in a tribe of designers and you should speak the language. The Design Prototyping Team for the Media Applications design group at Apple is looking for a prototyping and tools engineer. We’re a small dedicated design group focused on applications design for Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Apple TV, App Store and more.
- Required Skills
- Programming using the languages of Apple’s platforms: Objective C, Swift, C, tvOS, macOS
- Rapid prototyping experience
- AR/VR experience
- Desired Skills
- Experience programming for file systems, CMS, and version control systems would be a huge plus.
- Sketching / storyboarding of UIs
- Designing for touch or mobile interfaces such as iPhone and iPad · Creating interactive prototypes using Flash, Processing, OpenFrameworks, Quartz Composer, or similar tools
- Motion graphics, 3D graphics, special effects, or animation

Design You should have an understanding of user interface principles, a sensitivity to typography and color, a general awareness of materials / textures, and a practical grasp of physics and animation. Although you may be a dyed-in-the-wool engineer, you will be living in a tribe of designers and you should speak the language. Prototype We build working, interactive prototypes to test, explain, and explore ideas. Our process includes sketching, pixel- perfect mockups, animations, and code. You should be able to explore ideas at many different levels of fidelity, and be interested in making interactive prototypes. Engineer We are designing our own workflows and systems to help us better design, specify, and deliver our work to the product engineering teams. We need someone who can do the heavy lifting for some real head-turning internal processes. We use version control, CMS, file sharing, and project management and want to bring a new level of ease of use and presentation to our work internally. Collaborate We work with people all over Apple: other UI designers, industrial designers, engineers, marketing, and executives. You should be comfortable working in a studio environment and participating in individual and group critiques.
