The documentation engineering team is responsible for creating world-class tools and framework-level support for the documentation workflows in Xcode, Swift Playgrounds, and the developer website. We are looking for a creative, motivated, and passionate engineer who has experience with compilers to work with us to design and build a great documentation experience for developers. Strong software fundamentals and a passion for this area are required.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Swift and Objective-C programming languages
  • Experience using Xcode to build software for Apple’s platforms
  • Experience working on compilers
  • Proficiency with Apple’s development APIs
  • An understanding of documentation processes and their impact on delivering software
  • Experience shipping consumer-oriented products
  • A working knowledge of UNIX commands
  • Knowledge of continuous integration, software testing, and version control
  • Strong analytics and problem solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally and cross-culturally


You will work to design, implement and qualify documentation features across a wide variety of Apple’s products—from improvements to documentation workflows in Xcode and Swift Playgrounds to designing and implementing new functionality within our documentation compiler. Your role is to ensure Apple delivers world-class documentation pipeline to our millions of end users and third-party developers. Your duties include: 
 - Developing and maintaining software features and frameworks that help facilitate the documentation process - Building features on top of the Swift and clang compilers to improve the documentation experience for our users around the world - Identifying areas of improvement in shipping software and processes, and addressing issues with innovative solutions - Working cross-functionally with other engineering teams, developer tools, designers, QA and project management teams throughout Apple

Education & Experience

BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Additional Requirements

  • Preferred Skills:
  • - Experience collaborating or leading open source projects a plus.
  • - Passion for Apple products, the documentation user experience and the developer user experience within Xcode
