Apple's Synthetic Data Group is seeking a world class R&D Senior Pipeline Architect to be responsible for architecting and building our next generation cloud based 3D synthetic data pipeline for offline and real time content. The R&D Senior Pipeline Architect flourishes in a dynamic research and development, and fast paced start-up environment with a drive to define the rules that will enable a team to scale productively and efficiently. The individual should have deep knowledge of CG data pipelines, procedural content generation systems, and offline and real time rendering to produce visually stunning 3D content while navigating through unique technical challenges. The individual plays a critical role in cross functional team collaboration to plan and develop synthetic data to build software solutions for Apple’s next generation products. To succeed within this role, you should have shown experience in several of the following areas:

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years of production experience for feature films, games, or VFX
  • Expert knowledge designing and executing large production pipeline solutions
  • Extensive experience in Python, C++, Git, Perforce, Jira, and/or an equivalent
  • Proficiency in multiple content applications like Maya, VRay, Nuke, Arnold, Renderman, Redshift, Houdini, Shotgun, Photoshop, Substance, and their APIs
  • Exceptional knowledge of off-line rendering pipelines, and real-time engines
  • Understanding of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools
  • In-depth experience supporting OS X, Windows, and Linux operating systems
  • Experience producing photo-real VFX, particles and dynamics, CG environments and characters, and motion graphics in an integrated pipeline
  • Effectively collaborate with Engineers, Supervisors, and developers to prioritize production needs, tasks, and avoid duplicated efforts across teams to enhance the production pipelines
  • Conduct ongoing research and recommend workflow improvements to improve productivity and engineer robust and thoughtful software solutions
  • Construct validation tests to ensure software quality
  • Apply analytics to monitor and streamline development operations


Leverage your deep experience in all aspects of CG development, workflows, tools, and pipelines for offline and real-time environments. You will work in a cross-functional team to provide guidance to the SDG team on choosing technology solutions, designing user friendly experiences, and structuring data to establish pipeline and development standards and practices that will provide synthetic data to develop innovative computer vision and machine learning algorithms.

Education & Experience

BA in Digital Media / BS or MS in Computer Science / Equivalent industry experience

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work with non-technical artists and executive stakeholders
  • Experience with common interchange formats such as USD
  • Shader development, PBR texture/material workflows, lighting and material calibration
