In this highly visible role, you will utilize your design experience and intuition to lead a team to define and develop a new category of Apple products. Short-term team responsibilities include designing and building prototypes to explore the potential landscape in partnership with our elite Industrial Design and Human Factors teams. You and your team will learn how to seamlessly integrate electrical and mechanical components into Softgoods to create soft products that are both breathtaking and highly functional. Long term, you will have the opportunity to define our Softgoods architecture. With your team, you will design, develop, and ship products that will amaze and delight our customers.

Key Qualifications

  • Typically requires 5+ years of direct engineering management and 10+ years of CAD experience using NX or equivalent.
  • Softgoods materials and assembly processes are very different than traditional engineering materials and manufacturing methods. If these are new to you, you will quickly learn by working closely with our team.
  • You should have excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to a multi-disciplinary team.


The Softgoods Engineering team works with textiles, leather, silicone and soft polymers. Our mission is to use these incredible materials to enhance Apple’s existing product lines and to enable new technologies. We are a hardworking team of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. We work together in two alluring, customized labs where we design, engineer and develop the best products in the world. Delivering extraordinary Apple products made of soft materials is an exciting challenge and requires a creative and open-minded approach. As a team, we are responsible for creating Softgoods products in a new product category.

Education & Experience

BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required; MS preferred.
