Are you interested in building products used by millions every day that demonstrate state-of-the-art pattern recognition technologies? In the Handwriting Recognition team, you could participate in building amazing features like Scribble on watchOS and supporting the Apple Pencil experience on iPadOS! Part of the System Intelligence and Machine Learning (SIML) group that provides foundational machine learning technologies to Apples ecosystem, we offer a dynamic research and development environment focused on delivering handwriting recognition solutions across Apple platforms. We are looking for an outstanding engineer to help develop our next generation of machine learning technologies for handwriting recognition.

Key Qualifications

  • You should be experienced with modern machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with handwriting or text recognition, image processing, computer vision, speech recognition, or natural language processing
  • Strong programming, debugging and design skills
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to produce creative and innovative solutions to hard problems
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Detailed knowledge of C, C++, Objective-C or Swift programming
  • Experience with Unix, iOS, watchOS, or macOS development
  • Exposure to scripting or prototyping languages
  • Top-tier Machine Learning/Pattern Recognition conference publications


We are seeking engineers who will be responsible for prototyping and developing new features as well as contributing to the overall design and development of existing components. An ideal candidate should have experience in image or signal processing, deep learning and other statistical pattern recognition systems. Handwriting recognition and text recognition expertise as well as familiarity with big data development is a plus.

Education & Experience

Ph.D. or MA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
