Apple is looking for a Human Factors Engineer to initiate, plan and conduct studies to support design and validation of sensor based interactions for various hardware products.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Psychology, Human Factors, Engineering, User Experience Research, Human Computer Interaction or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
Identify data needs to drive engineering's design decisions. Identify user study goals and research questions to identify answers and insights into the user experience in question / under development. Design user study methods and participant experience to answer research questions. Provide input on the data collection hardware used to collect data for machine learning algorithms inclusive of usability, human perception and cognition factors/consideration. Frequently involves handling prototype hardware to understand intended user experience, limitations of hardware system, identify user experience research question This also involves prototype HW transportation from DHX to engineering teams that prep the units, to the study room where data is collected. At times this role transfers HW between buildings. Work with User Study Organization engineers and data requestor to define user study system / infrastructure. Confirm final system enables desired participant and moderator experience as a function of human error controls, visual interactions and physical manipulations of the participant and moderator with the study hardware. Confirm final system accurately generates and records intended data sets. Author user study documents: study plan, facilitator protocol, recruiting screener, consent forms, data trackers, etc. Prepare study space: Setup data collection room to control/vary environmental variables This includes working with Facilities to move furniture, but may also include movement/transfer of lighter weight materials like study props, iPads, etc to setup the study space. Acquire data collection, prototype hardware. Confirm software configuration enables study goals. Facilitate user study sessions to collect quantitative, qualitative, observational and logged data. This includes facilitating group sessions. This may include standing and walking around a large user study space to observe user behaviors as participants move between data collection stations. The User Studies team conducts a study in this manner about 4x/year for up to 3 weeks each time. Analyze study data and formulate insights. Generate results presentation. Present research results and recommendations to study stakeholders, including management.
