As part of the Battery Engineering group, this position involves contributing to the development of next generation battery solutions that can deliver more energy than conventional Li-ion cell designs. The role also involves equipment specification and commission, as well as establishing and optimizing related process parameters related to conductive films. Also work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors and technology partners on application development from concept prototype phase to production introduction.

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience leading manufacturing process development in at least one of the following fields: semiconductor front or back end, thin film process development, display or solar
  • Experience working with subcontractors on material development and process engineering
  • Flexibility to tackle challenges in new areas, and to apply a broad foundation of knowledge to identify methods of investigation and study
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a broad audience in order to build understanding and support
  • Ability to design comprehensive development plans and experiments
  • Experience in statistical analysis methods and tools, design of experiment
  • Understanding of materials characterization and FA techniques
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good communication, presentation and teamwork skills


• Develop processes to deposit conductive (metal) films • Develop film characterization techniques for metrology and inspection • Provide leadership and training for technicians • Provide leadership in day to day operations of deposition tools - tool and process monitoring, post PM process qualification, troubleshooting • Participate in assessment and selection of equipment suppliers • Prepare project updates and goals, travel to suppliers, manufacturing sites, conferences as needed • Work closely with integration and test teams on developing critical to quality (CTQ) metrics, root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for yield improvements • Work closely with equipment engineers and external suppliers on tool improvements and selection of new equipment

Education & Experience

BS/MS degree in Materials Engineering or related field, Ph.D. preferred
