Apple's Synthetic Data Group is looking for an experienced 3D Application Engineer to help scale our next generation synthetic data workflows for content creators and synthetic data engineers. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced start-up style environment and be able to function well in a multi-functional team addressing both immediate technical needs and provide long term technical solutions. A strong background in production in games, films or VFX will help provide a solid foundation. To succeed within this role, you should have shown experience in several of the following areas:

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of production experience developing applications and workflows for feature films, games or VFX
  • Experience building workflows for both technical and non technical artists
  • Hands on experience with development of tools and workflows in a production environment in films or games
  • Experience with realtime game engines and offline rendering solutions
  • An eye toward proceduralism in asset and scene construction
  • Experience in render time optimizations
  • Expert level experience with standard 3d DCC application APIs
  • Extensive experience in Python, C++, Git, Perforce, Jira, and/or an equivalent
  • Experience supporting OS X, Windows, and Linux operating systems
  • Excellent debugging skills


Help create and define the workflows used by Synthetic Data Engineers and artists as they help shape the growing field. The role will primarily focus on 3rd party plugin integration and procedural tools for designing and building key artistic and technical workflows for generating synthetic data. A heavy focus on proceduralism and automation will be key to help scale the Synthetic Data Groups efforts to provide synthetic data to help train innovative machine learning algorithms. You should be comfortable in a R&D environment with rapid changing goals and requirements.

Education & Experience

BA in Digital Media / BS or MS in Computer Science/ Equivalent industry experience

Additional Requirements

  • Experience developing custom plugins for Maya and Houdini
  • Ability to work with with artists and engineers to assess technical requirements and designs
  • Strong linear algebra and computer vision backgrounds a plus
