The Interactive Media Group (IMG) is at the center of audio, video and graphics support in Apple’s innovative products, including the AirPods, HomePod, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV. IMG’s Audio team provides the audio foundation for various high profile features like Game Audio, Siri, FaceTime, media capture, playback and API’s for third party developers to enrich our platforms. The team is looking for talented engineers who are passionate about building audio features and products for millions of customers and care about overall user experience. You will revolutionize the audio experience. Within IMG, the Embedded Frameworks and Architecture group is looking for an Audio Firmware Engineer. This role will span a broad range of audio delivery and work with a broad range of teams, including hardware, software, algorithm and QA. While the role is focused primarily on audio accessories, a key component of Apple’s ecosystem, there will be opportunities to work in other parts of Apple’s ecosystem as well.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in embedded platforms
  • Programming (any language, though C, C++ and Python are a plus)
  • Experience working with audio hardware and prototyping systems
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams or independently as needed
  • Familiarity with real-time audio (sample rates, buffering, drivers, etc) is a plus
  • Optimizing code for programmable DSP’s is a plus
  • Understanding of DSP fundamentals in telephony or music is a plus


This position will have opportunities spanning all aspects of product development. For the early stages, the primary activities are collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to define new products, product features and requirements as well as crafting the system architecture to fit these needs. As those definitions crystallize, the focus shifts to development and optimization of embedded C/C++ code running on different architectures and supporting bring-up and debug of prototype hardware. Concurrently, working with internal and external teams to bring products to mass production ensures that customers receive what was intended. Education & Experience

BS/ MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
