Apple is seeking a Character R&D Technical Artist who is exceptionally creative and innovative to join a team of industry-leading developers in their pursuit of high quality procedural content for synthetic character. Design and implement character workflows and procedural systems while working closely with a small team in a collaborative nature. Be forward-thinking in a fast paced, start-up environment with a drive to enable a team to scale productively and efficiently. The individual should be able to collaborate with multi-functional teams (research, engineering, technical artists, production, and outsourcing) to develop pipelines and generate data for synthetic character to build software solutions for Apple’s next generation products! To succeed within this role, you should have shown experience in several of the following areas:

Key Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of anatomy-based character rigging, look development for photo-realistic character development
  • Proficiency in 3D graphics applications such as Maya, Houdini or others
  • Deep understanding of proceduralism in computer graphics
  • Good programming skills in Python and/or C/C++ in a Linux/and or MacOS environment
  • Good understanding of modern shading/rendering methodologies such as PBS/PBR, IBL
  • Good understanding in 3D geometry and linear algebra
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills

Description

Apple makes the newest technologies accessible to create amazing user experiences. You will have the opportunity to work in a multi-functional team to provide synthetic character data to develop innovative computer vision and machine learning algorithms. You will need a keen understanding and deep experience in all aspects of character development - photogrammetry, shading, rigging, simulation, and pipelines for offline and real-time environments.

Education & Experience

BS in computer science, computer graphics, BA in Digital Media or equivalent experience

Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Familiarity with sensor/tracking related technologies
  • Experience on camera/depth sensing device/optical device test would be a plus
  • Exposure or experience in computer vision and/or deep learning is a big bonus
  • Experience with real-time rendering engines
