The Developer Tools team provides the tools to develop software for Apple’s innovative iOS, watchOS, tvOS and macOS platforms. Because tools are our products, software engineers on our team have the unique and rewarding opportunity to apply personal experience to enhance and augment the tools they use every day. The dyld team is responsible for the technologies related to linking and loading executable files on Apple platforms. As an engineer on the team, you will engineer Apple's linker tools to ensure that programs link and launch efficiently — and directly improve the user experience for all users of practically every device Apple ships.

Description

The dyld team owns tools such as the dynamic linker, the static linker, and several others to inspect and manipulate binaries built on Apple platforms. These tools must be highly efficient, be securely coded, and thoroughly tested. As part of this team, you will collaborate with engineers across Apple to improve the CPU and memory efficiency of software across the OS. This collaboration requires excellent communication skills and an ability to discuss complex topics with widely differing backgrounds. Your engineering work will include (among others) profiling App startup times, debugging App launch behavior, and architecting and implementation solutions to improve system performance and evolve Apple's platform software capabilities. Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • • Familiarity with operating systems internals
  • • Familiarity with assembly language (of some kind)
  • • Experience with linkers (static or dynamic) and compilers is beneficial but is not required
