The ideal candidate would have a broad exposure to multiple engineering fields, manufacturing techniques, and have experience with bringing-up contract manufacturers as well as managing them. This candidate would also command a practical understanding of the phases of system development & integration; and how best to apply situational program management to develop, publish, organize, and drive a program plan!!

Key Qualifications

  • Exceptional leadership skills and ability to inspire team members.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Requires experience in engineering and manufacturing.
  • Multi-sensor and multi-camera system development and integration experience desired.
  • New product introduction and Manufacturing operations experience desired.
  • Meaningful experience in introducing products into manufacturing, or volume production a large plus.
  • Ability for limited local travel to CMs and key vendors.
  • Self motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Comprehends and deals well with rapid development cycles; remains flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty.

You will lead a team of engineers (PD, EE, Optics, FW, Test/Cal) and other functional teams in carrying out new DCS development, vendor and CM operations, NPI in engineering and validation activities; as well as sustaining operations for these programs critical to Apple’s product roadmaps. Drive system definition and closure to architecture and technical opens, resource management; develop and publish milestones and timelines in the early stages of a DCS project. Work cross-functionally to ensure necessary project support and prioritization. Ensure tight inter-team coordination and communication to identify and plan for dependencies between these teams. Ensure Design for Data Collection: Coordinate with internal and external teams through the entire development cycle to ensure the HW system meets the needs of the study protocol in terms of performance. (e.g. thermals, battery life) and ergonomics in order to successfully meet the data needs for the algorithm team. Drive Safety and New Product Security Compliance: Coordinating with the relevant product safety teams during the design phase to accommodate and validate the vital system safety and obfuscation requirements for external data collection. Drive Design for Manufacturability: Working closely with engineering teams through the entire development cycle to ensure that not only is the design robust, but that it is suitable for the fast paced needs of data collection and is manufacturable in the quantities requested. Drive Milestone Reviews: Lead design and fabrication reviews with multi-functional partners; develop, own, and present the end-to-end program schedule and cost estimates; identify and highlight non-technical risks. Lead RFQ and PO Process: Initiate and complete RFQs with critical vendors including Contract Manufacturer (CM). Prepare and launch PO approvals; authorize payments and own running overall program cost based on fiscal year budgets. Contract Manufacturer and Test Line Readiness: Work with local CM and internal teams at every build to ensure space and security readiness; that the material drive and fixtures needed for assembling the product and the test stations for testing them are in place and qualified; SOPs for assembling products are ready and the operators are trained. Lead build readiness reviews and communicate technical & schedule risks. Own Yield management: Lead the team to prioritize all yield hitters and drive Failure Analysis (FA) to understand if the issues are on account of Design/Process/Part-quality and drive the responsible teams to address the issues. Author and publish daily and weekly build reports. Coordinate program debriefs and collect findings from the design and build phases; propose and own future process improvements. Manage Lifetime Support: During the data collection phase of the program provide in-field support, triage, repair, and re-test / re-calibration for the DCS units deployed at collection sites. Communication: Synthesize information about the program (status for each DCS development phase, build and test line readiness, design trade-offs, impact on development landmarks) into concise communication for Senior Management. Strong presentation and communication skills required. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you and explore how we can have you be part of our team!
