The Hardware Test Engineering (HWTE) team is looking for a system design engineer who is responsible for the design and deployment of systems, which carry out calibration and performance validation of various camera and depth systems. You will be responsible for the full spectrum of the lifecycle of the test system - from prototyping to deployment at mass production. You will work closely with the Camera Design group to define calibration and test procedures, and design high precision instrumentation & systems to be able to perform this efficiently in a factory environment. As a Calibration and Instrumentation Engineer, you will - Develop state of the art measurement systems for Apple. Introduce cutting edge technology to people around the world to make their life better Touch every aspect of a system, including HW design, SW development, vendor engagement, algorithm optimization, data mining and factory deployment Work collaboratively with a creative and diverse team of experienced engineers from all disciplines including Systems Hardware, Product Design, Reliability,

Key Qualifications

  • Our systems have to perform at a high level of accuracy in non-ideal factory NPI conditions. You should be someone that is excited about:
  • Debugging hardware and software problems that we face in a factory environment;
  • Writing code for newly requested features and reviewing teammates code;
  • Working with sensor equipment vendors to design the equipment for calibrating and verifying the performance of Apple products;
  • Analyzing calibration data from many units to pinpoint problems and improve test systems;
  • Multitasking on multiple projects that have tight schedules;
  • Estimated Travel;
  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel.


Required Experience BS in CE/EE/Imaging/Physics/Optics/Color Science Strong programming skills in one or more of the following: C/C++/Objective-C Experience and interest in systems engineering in a multidisciplinary environment Experience in at least one of Matlab/Python/Lua languages Experience in one or more source control systems like Git/SVN Ability to work proactively in a collaborative, highly cross-functional and fast pace environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education & Experience

MS in CE/EE/Imaging/Physics/Optics/Color Science

Additional Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience with at least 2 years working on camera, optics or imaging products
  • Experience in high volume consumer electronics calibration, testing and manufacturing experience
  • Experience with embedded systems, automation and motion control
  • Experience with image processing algorithms
  • Experience with plotting, processing and mining data
  • Experience with Xcode
