Engineering project managers in the Developer Tools team are core to the department, working with product engineering to ensure that projects and features are delivered on-schedule and to Apple’s high standards. You will work with our Xcode, programming languages, debugger, and GPU compiler teams, as well as across Apple's software and hardware engineering organizations to deliver outstanding tools used to develop and debug iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS apps. You will collaborate with engineering managers to set bug targets, ensure that we hit those goals, and run bug review meetings to ensure that we focus on the right priorities. You will also work closely with your peers to manage our bug tracking software (Radar) with the latest schedules while thinking critically about how to balance the efficiency of the engineering teams with collecting accurate data to drive program decisions. The ideal candidate has familiarity with software development including shipping software, an understanding of how to project manage large-scale releases, extensive knowledge of bug tracking software and tools such as Jira and Confluence, and how to communicate and plan across multiple cross-functional teams. Background in scripting or automation (especially Swift) is a plus. Nimble planning for large-scale projects is key along with the ability to think on your feet to solve issues all while being the central point of contact to communicate between teams.

  • Familiarity with compiler technologies, integrated development environments, and other developer-focused tools
  • Comfort with the UNIX shell and ability to automate tasks using a scripting language such as Python, Swift, Objective-C, AppleScript, or Perl


As a tools project manager, your responsibilities include: - Coordinating within our team and with our partners to release high-quality tools on time - Tracking and prioritizing tasks across multiple product releases and efforts simultaneously - Communicating effectively at all levels, from informal drop-ins to formal announcements, often being the face of the Developer Tools team inside Apple - Managing internal tools and bug tracking software to enable engineering teams to schedule and plan their work - Calculating engineering capacity based on historical data from previous releases while accounting for velocity of upcoming releases - Automating repetitive tasks and seeing around corners for future tasks that would benefit from automation Additional preferred experience: - Understanding of hardware development cycles - Usage of source control systems such as git - A power user of Slack who looks for ways to optimize workflows and streamline communication

Education & Experience
