Wireless and AI/ML technologies have become a crucial part of all Apple devices that delight our customers. In our unit, we have the mission to research and develop AI/ML based wireless technology for next generation radio access networks across different layers of the protocol stack. We are looking for expert and highly self-motivated machine learning engineers with basic understanding of wireless technology used in innovative indoor and outdoor wireless networks. In this role you will be at the center of a ground breaking research group responsible for crafting next generation AI/ML based powerful radio access technologies over the next decade. You will work on defining system level concepts, proposing, and researching innovative ideas & algorithms, performing sophisticated system simulations, defining and working on rapid prototyping platforms to help prove your ideas for next generation (5GA/6G) cellular systems with AI/ML foundation.

Key Qualifications

  • Direct experience on solving interdisciplinary problems via machine learning (ML).
  • Knowledge in Algorithms, Optimization, Probability, Statistics, Signal processing, Estimation/Detection Theory, and Information Theory.
  • Working experience in one or more of the following research directions in Neural Networks: Deep Reinforcement Learning, Federated Learning, Transformer, Transfer Learning, Online Learning, Generative Neural Network, Graph Neural Network, CNN, RNN etc.
  • Shown track-record of innovation in AI/ML.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, MATLAB.
  • Basic knowledge of communication system theory and wireless systems.
  • Demonstrate clarity of thought and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Contributions to research communities/efforts, including strong publication record in relevant fields.
  • Understanding of the practical challenges of applying Machine Learning to Wireless Communications.
  • Familiarity with efficient implementation of AI/ML in hardware.
  • Knowledge of current cellular or Wi-Fi communication standards: eg. 5G (NR), 4G (LTE), IEEE 802.11ax, IEEE 802.11ax/ay/az/be.
  • Advanced programming skills, eg. object-oriented programming, algorithm development, modeling (floating-point and fixed-point) and link-level simulation.
  • Familiarity with wireless system optimization for augmented reality, virtual reality and automotive applications.
  • Familiarity with sensing technologies.
  • Familiarity with edge computing.


- You will research and design AI/ML based next generation (5G/6G) wireless communication systems for radio access networks and wireless modems - Contribute to link-level and system simulator modeling and AI/ML framework design - Take a top-down approach towards system design starting from a use case of relevance to Apple products, defining a problem statement and arriving at groundbreaking innovative solutions - Participate in industry/academic forums passionate about 6G technology - Assess the benefit of different proposals to solving a problem - Define and provide vital systems engineering support towards rapid prototyping platform development in the form of system requirements and system design documents - Contribute to future 3GPP RAN work items on 5G/6G technology

Education & Experience

MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of working experience or PhD in relevant field.
