Apple is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join the panel-process and Optics Engineering team. The PPO team features a collaborative environment with highly creative, smart people developing technologies and solutions to characterise display and sensing modules for various Apple products and emerging technologies. The team features opportunities for individuals to contribute across a wide spectrum of disciplines and product lines, working closely with product design, optics, electrical and software engineering to deliver world class products and cutting-edge technologies. Position involves leading the design, development and deployment of production systems with integrated automation for touch, sensing and display modules for mass production. The role impacts the entire gamut of Apple products and emerging technologies.

Key Qualifications

MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
7+ yrs. mechanical system design experience (tool, fixture, mechatronics, electronics packaging, optics)
3D CAD experience required (NX, Solid works, Pro/E)
Disciplined in drafting & GD&T practices
Experience with analysis: FEA, Tolerance stackup, Error budget, RCA
Knowledge of manufacturing methods (precision machining, heat treatments etc.)
Excellent written & verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
10+ yrs. experience in equipment development, ideally in high volume production environments
5+ yrs. experience in opto-mechanical design (camera\optical mounts, kinematic mounts, compliant mechanism design)
Experience in designing stand-alone equipment for consumer electronics products/modules
Experience designing mechanical outlines for PCB, FPC, connectors etc.
Experience in design of high precision mechanisms & motion control systems
Experience in designing for low particle environments/cleanrooms
Knowledge of machine/computer vision systems
Knowledge of optical system integration, alignment and stability testing
Knowledge of robotics, automation and wafer/DUT handling systems
Programming knowledge
Other: Travel
International travel is required. 10%

Description

• Drive, end-to-end mechanical design of stand-alone functional systems • Work with cross functional teams for equipment development & deployment • Design systems for automation integration & high-volume production environments • Develop system requirements, perform detailed analysis & testing • Apply engineering knowhow in the areas of optics, precision mechanism design & motion control • Apply scientific methods\testing to debug issues and implement robust solutions. • Document best practices, SOPs and maintain a library of proven designs

Education & Experience

MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering

Additional Requirements

- MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 10+ yrs. experience in equipment development ideally in mass production environments
- 5+ yrs. experience in opto-mechanical design (camera\optical mounts, kinematic mounts, compliant mechanism design)
- Experience in crafting stand-alone functional test stations ideally for consumer electronics products/modules
- Experience designing mechanical outlines for PCB, FPC, connectors etc.
- Experience in design of high precision mechanisms & motion control systems
- Experience in designing for low particle environments/cleanrooms
- Knowledge of machine/computer vision systems
- Knowledge of optical system integration, alignment and stability testing
- Knowledge of robotics, automation and wafer/DUT handling systems
- Programming knowledge

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,000 and $230,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
