Key Qualifications

  • Experienced, hard-working engineer with great initiative and a proven track record of developing complex systems from initial definition throughout the project life cycle
  • Experience with traditional and machine learning based algorithms for computer vision systems
  • Experience ranging from firmware for embedded systems ranging through system level applications
  • Familiarity with real time applications across distributed systems and sensors
  • Ability to quickly pick up and own new concepts and to contribute with innovative solutions

Description

Apple's Incubation team is seeking a skilled hands-on Systems Software Architect to lead development of software for high performance cutting edge custom sensing systems that are essential to delivering future products & features to Apple’s Customers. This high-impact role offers a unique opportunity to lead multi-functional teams in challenging projects, coordinating software development efforts from firmware through application level, for custom hardware and sensors. You will be collaborating with world-class experts in multiple fields, contributing to exciting design applications employing custom machine vision, depth, and traditional imaging sensors. Job responsibilities include requirements definition, architecture, coordinating multi-functional design & development, coordinating support for small- to medium-scale production test & calibration, and support through the full system lifecycle. - Collaborate with computer vision algorithm teams as well as system & module teams to interpret requests and, in partnership with a system hardware lead peer, define requirements for new custom imaging systems - Drive end-to-end software scoping with partner teams and propose & negotiate technical and schedule optimizations - Resolve multi-functional tradeoffs—including electrical, optical, mechanical, firmware, driver, and other software teams—enabling coordinated development that meets dynamic program goals and schedule - Define, document and present software architecture to leadership and other stakeholders - Coordinate multi-functional work & dependencies to align with dynamic project goals - Coordinate and assist in bring-up, debug, production, test, calibration, and verification plans to ensure high quality systems are delivered - Deliver leadership presentations of proposals, status, and decisions

Education & Experience

MS with 5+ years or BS with 7+ years of industry experience with proven record of leading teams through complex software projects on custom embedded hardware including close collaboration with Electrical, Firmware, and CV Algorithms teams Experience with C/C++, Python, Swift, Objective C desired Familiarity with needs of training data sets for Machine Learning (including Deep Learning) preferred Understanding of optics/sensor/image pipeline preferred Experience with test definition and continuous integration a plus

Additional Requirements

  • Proven record of leading teams through complex software projects on custom embedded hardware including close collaboration with Electrical, Firmware, and Computer Vision Algorithms teams
  • Familiarity with needs of training data sets for Machine Learning (including Deep Learning) preferred
  • Understanding of optics/sensor/image pipeline preferred
  • Experience with test definition and continuous integration a plus
