The Software Development Platform team helps make that happen by building platforms and tools for developers in Apple Cloud Services, getting ideas from prototype to production with speed and confidence. Our services empower engineers across all of Apple, including some of the most well-known customer facing properties. Our data science team is responsible for understanding the impact and efficiency of these platforms and tools, and all of the Apple services, products, and infrastructure they support. It is our mission as the data science team to help Apple make the best decisions possible with our storage and compute resources, improving the quality and experience of our developers, and customers world-wide.

Key Qualifications

  • Expert R programmer, proficient in package development
  • Expert data wrangler in R (e.g. dplyr, data.table) that is also comfortable working in native SQL
  • Excellent data visualization and storytelling skills, weaving prose and graphics
  • Strong statistical background and a fundamental understanding of regression analysis
  • Experience in building interactive dashboards (e.g. Shiny, Dash) and reports (e.g. Rmarkdown)
  • Experience in collaborative software development and version control using git
  • Creative and curious thinker that can translate business problems into data requirements
  • Ability to prototype ideas quickly and create reproducible workflows
  • Excellent and experienced collaborator with a history of working cross-functionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical results to a non-technical audience
  • Well-organized and self-motivated, comfortable advancing multiple priorities at once on tight schedules


As members of the data science team, we work directly with engineering teams to understand and model current and future infrastructure demands. This requires being persistent and flexible, extracting data from various sources, cleaning and curating these data, and clearly and concisely communicating insights to executives and business partners. You will have the opportunity to work on descriptive data products that help the company make smarter, data-driven decision regarding our storage and compute resources. On any given day, you could be building internal R packages to facilitate workflows (e.g. connection to databases & APIs); working with stakeholders to understand and define data requirements; developing statistical models to forecast and provide business guidance; or exploring and visualizing data with interactive reports and Shiny dashboards.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Graduate degree preferred.
