Role Number:200467109
The Sensing Product Design team is looking for a talented mechatronics engineer to build great experiences and bring Apple products to life. We are the team developing many of the sensors that changed the way people interact with their technology. Touch redefined the phone and tablet, TouchID seamlessly secured them, and the heart rate monitor let you keep tabs on yourself. In this role, you will be responsible for specifying, developing, characterizing and validating touch sensing systems. To be successful, you should be able to thrive in a dynamic, agile, multi-disciplinary, and hands-on environment that values engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation.

Key Qualifications

  • Multi-disciplinary understanding of EE, ME, and Physics principles with hands-on experience in system-level design
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with proven proficiency in 2D drafting, 3D conceptual modeling (NX preferred), GD&T, and design trade-offs.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive failure analysis (tolerance analysis, statistical analysis, Monte Carlo, design-of-experiments) and FA techniques (CT, X-ray, FIB/SEM/EDX, etc.) to inform root cause and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Large Data Processing and Coding: MATLAB, JMP, Python, or similar tool(s).
  • Electrical engineering background with logical thought process and analytical skill set, and ability to break-down complex problems fundamental blocks that can be analyzed via understanding of electro-magnetic interactions
  • Working knowledge of signal processing as applied to sensor systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills
  • Mechatronics and/or MEMS experience is a a plus

Description

As a product design engineer, you will own the end-to-end design, development and validation of sensing technology into Apple’s portfolio of products. Working collaboratively with your peers on system integration challenges such as sensor and module design, you will propose and negotiate multi-functional requirements to guarantee module performance. Oversee complete module design and execution, tracking various architectural and execution risks, schedule and inter-team collaboration. Lead cross-functional team through failure analysis to identify root-cause and inform corrective actions; coordinate and manage path-to-closure on complex, multi-faceted issues. Optimize optical, material, process, electrical and mechanical design trade-offs. Analyze engineering datasets to reconcile system models with real-world measurements. Apply rigorous and thoughtful experimental design to reduce design risk/uncertainty as quickly as possible. Author regular technical communication for executive and multi-functional briefings. Support engineering build activities with performance validation measurements, yield optimization, and failure analysis coordination; support for our vendors includes international travel between 15% and 25%. At the end of the extraordinary team effort, your work will be in the hands of millions of people making a visible difference in their daily lives.
