Description
As part of Apple's engineering team, you will be responsible for manufacturing research and development to tackle sophisticated problems that directly impact the cost, quality, and delivery of Apple products. You will work under broad goals and objectives, exercising judgment within defined practices and policies to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Setting standard practices and independently determining the impact on design approaches and parameters for final products.
- Applying extensive expertise in all facets of mechanical product design, providing direction, mentorship, and resources to other engineering groups, project leaders, and factory technicians.
- Acting as lead engineer on a variety of projects, participating in project planning of major sub-projects, and staying current on relevant technical trends and developments.
- Designing for manufacturability by providing early and ongoing involvement to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturable.
- Managing all phases of product engineering, from concept through repeat manufacturing to the end of life, including production support engineering with advanced testing methods, procedures, and failure analysis.
- Developing advanced process engineering solutions to improve quality and efficiency.
- Improving automation equipment by enhancing retry rates, reducing downtime, and managing OSS issues through innovative design and methodologies.
- Using data to influence Product Design teams to adopt automation-friendly product designs from a Mass Production perspective.
- Planning, developing, and implementing advanced testing and evaluation procedures for upcoming product releases, including the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis based on Six Sigma principles.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in an engineering (automation) role with experience directing a team of engineers for New Product Introduction (NPI).
- With experience in automatic assembly process development and machine design, such as PnP, glue dispensing, machine vision, and laser welding technologies.
- Familiar with process data analysis (JMP, Tableau, Python), and Six Sigma methodologies
- Proactive with a strong ability to communicate and collaborate with multi-functional teams effectively
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record of cost reduction, project management, and engineering design required.
- Required to understand and build tolerance stack-ups for assemblies and part level.
- A strong plus would be knowledge of optics principles related to CCD cameras, 2D and 1D lasers, and their use for positioning and critical alignment fixtures.
- Self-starter with innovation, integrity, and attention to detail
- Proficiency in written and spoken Mandarin is preferred
