Role Number:200589528
Do you love taking on big challenges that require exceptionally creative solutions? Do you deeply understand how an incredible camera experience should work? As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras. The Camera Systems Engineering Group develops systems, calibration, and correction procedures to maintain high image quality over a wide range of use cases and component variation. Past projects have addressed, autofocus, image stabilization, position sensing, stereo imaging, special-case optimizations (low-light, high disturbance, etc), support of factory operations. The team is seeking an exceptional control systems engineer with broad skills to design and develop the next generation of camera technology.

Description

Camera control-systems engineering involves systems-level analysis and modeling of imaging and sensing systems, modeling dynamic systems, developing robust control strategies, design and construction of prototypes to guide development, definition of test procedures, and documentation of requirements and design considerations. Typical responsibilities in this role would include: • Systems-level analysis and modeling of electromechanical systems • Control systems analysis, synthesis, and implementation • Measurement system prototyping, including HW, FW and SW development • Automation of measurement procedures and data analysis (Matlab, Python, etc.) • Interfaces and components for electromechanical applications (laser metrology, micro controllers, magnetic sensors, actuators) • Work with multidisciplinary subjects related to control systems applications in electro-mechanical devices (firmware realizations, actuators, sensors, mechanical and electrical engineering, etc) • Defining, documenting, publishing and maintaining system specifications • Defining subsystem and system level tests to characterize and/or guarantee parametric specifications • Management of project deliverables and schedules to meet commitments to product development teams • Discovering and tracking external technology development by suppliers, competitors, and academia • Occasional international travel to existing and potential vendors of camera technology

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in a relevant field (Physics, ME, EE, ASE (Aero/Astro), CS, Optical Engineering, etc.)
  • Experience with linear and nonlinear control systems design, including real-time realizations for electronic and electromechanical systems with microcontrollers
  • Experience in estimation strategies (e.g. Kalman filtering and its applications, data-driven system ID)
  • Deriving plant models with multiple inputs and outputs, including structural modes experience

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in a relevant field (Physics, ME, EE, ASE (Aero/Astro), CS, Optical Engineering, etc.)
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • Experience with Matlab and Simulink for modeling and simulation
  • Familiarity with inertial navigation sensors and sensor fusion
  • Familiarity with one or more 3rd party controls instrumentation solutions (e.g. DSpace, Speedgoat, NI CRIO) and with formal SW development discipline in C/C++ (version control, change review process, coding practices)
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as dynamic signal analyzers and oscilloscopes
  • Broad knowledge of engineering concepts (device behavior, troubleshooting, data-analysis, systems modeling)
  • Proven ability to collaborate across groups, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
