The Siri and Information Intelligence team is at the forefront of revolutionizing how hundreds of millions of people use their devices to get information. Our team is instrumental in powering and enhancing features across a range of Apple products, including Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, and more. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will be immersed in one of the most dynamic high-performance computing environments, handling petabytes of data and millions of queries per second. You will collaborate with world-renowned experts in large-scale data management, machine learning systems, and knowledge extraction, focusing on question answering, assistant response ranking, summarization, and search technologies. Your role will involve designing and developing features for platforms that manage complex data structures, allowing you to innovate and build products that delight users daily while significantly impacting how information is accessed and utilized across Apple's ecosystem.
The Search and Knowledge Quality Team at Apple is seeking exceptional Machine Learning Engineers to join our prestigious group of world-class experts specializing in large-scale data management and machine learning systems. You will play a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of knowledge question answering within Siri and other Apple products, impacting how hundreds of millions of users interact with their devices. In this role, you will design and develop cutting-edge features for platforms involving large-scale data management, machine learning, and deep learning systems applied to graph data, web documents, and both semi-structured and unstructured data feeds. This is your chance to shape upcoming Apple products by leveraging your applied machine learning expertise and robust software engineering skills, alongside a diverse team of applied scientists and distributed systems engineers. Your contributions will refine user search experiences, ensuring they are not only seamless but deeply satisfying in meeting users' information-seeking needs.
  • Excellent programming skills in mainstream programming languages such as C++, Python, Scala, and Go.
  • Experience working with large data sets, knowledge graph, and end-to-end pipelines, ideally using the Apache software stack (e.g. Spark)
  • Working experience with natural language processing and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, or JAX
  • Ability to understand/clarify product requirements and translate them into technical tasks in ML modeling and engineering
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous development solutions (e.g. Jenkins, etc.)
  • Experience in machine learning/AI or a similar area
  • BS in Computer Science or related field
  • MS or Ph.D in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Data Science or a related field
  • Experience with cloud-native deployment (e.g. Kubernetes) is a good plus
  • Experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating for large language models
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation or generative AI technology is a plus
  • Passion for building phenomenal products and curiosity to learn
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
