JOB SUMMARY
Apple Manufacturing Design Engineers (MDEs) are exceptional engineers who provide comprehensive manufacturing and process solutions for key design features. This includes developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, selecting and/or designing manufacturing equipment, automation, and engaging in strategic R&D.
Leverage your Mechanical Engineering experience to collaborate with Product Design Engineering and Industrial Design teams to evaluate product features for manufacturability.
Be deeply involved in developing processes such as CNC, Polishing, Surface Treatment, Sand Blasting, Cleaning, Laser Etching, Laser Welding and Automation , etc
Map out process flows, select processing equipment, and design necessary fixtures, sandpapers, magazines, and trays. Initiate Design of Experiments (DOEs) to optimize machine setups, CNC cutters, coating processes, polishing paths and process parameters. Finalize process solutions from the prototype stage to mass production.
Lead cycle time reduction efforts during the New Product Introduction (NPI) stage to meet Mass Production (MP) manufacturing targets.
Work extensively with suppliers to define and refine processes , cutters and fixtures, ensuring process capability and readiness.
Coordinate activities and direction through clear communication between Asia and US-based teams, as well as vendors.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or relevant manufacturing experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English; fluency is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing processes, with proficiency in relevant processes and understanding of others.
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and passionate about learning new things.
- Expertise in project management, 6-Sigma, GD&T, SPC and mechanical fabrication techniques.
- Experience with fabricating parts or jigs, fixtures, cutters, tooling, injection molding, casting, plastics, laser, adhesives, automation, machine shop (CNC, mills, lathes)
- Experience in leading project development teams.
- Familiarity with data analysis methods and tools, including experience with AIML and lean manufacturing.
- Experience of implementing the full machine learning lifecycle—from data collection and preprocessing to model development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Proficiency in Mandarin for communication.
- Ability and willingness to work independently and travel frequently, primarily within Asia.
