We have an opportunity for a Cell Engineer of Lithium-ion Battery with strong business sense to enable the development of new innovative battery solutions with advanced materials technology and creative cell design. With your unique in-depth understanding of cathode, electrolyte, binder and so on, you will enable this build through effective communications with the material teams, effective management of the cell vendors for the realization of our technologies to production as well as the material vendors. You will provide leadership over these strategic technology partnerships and aligning them to Apple's development programs and roadmaps. You will also take ownership of the materials knowledge and cell designing skills, statistic data analysis and design review management experiences for rapid development of processes and technologies while leading this R&D agenda, while demonstrating initiative, and the ability to maintain highly interactive relationships with various partners and influence senior management We invite you to join us on this journey and help us leave the world better than we found it!

Key Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of cell designing experience for lithium-ion battery
  • Experience with mathematical modeling of battery designs
  • Unique skills in the application of quality tools and their application to the production of lithium batteries including statistical analysis of performance results and process capabilities
  • Excellent English and Japanese written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Pro-activeness and self-motivation
  • The unique ability to collaborate across disciplines, constituencies, both internal and external, and across geographies, with strong leadership and passion to guide multiple dynamics towards a common goal
  • A dedication and commitment for results in a dynamic and fast moving environment
  • The ability for frequent travel all over the world as needed


・Lead and guide related Cell vendors to complete high energy density next generation LIB realization under daring timelines ・Create implementation plan and documentation of advanced Cell design achievement roadmap to be followed by the R&D team member ・Define key technical factor, procedures, measurement way, and create solution to meet bold goals ・Produce and organize required budgets and forecasts Mentor staff members and assist their further growth. Assist in the recruitment of new team members ・Identify potential external partners, assess their technologies, and take the role of negotiation for establishing partnerships on strategic technology initiatives with your internal partners ・Build interactive partnerships with material vendors, cell vendors, external R&D institute, as well as all related Apple teams across the globe

Education & Experience

Master or PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related fields
