The Imaging and Sensing group at Apple develops Depth and Image Sensing systems such as the revolutionary True Depth camera that powers FaceID and the recently released LIDAR scanner. The Apple Imaging & Sensing Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test and qualification of camera & Depth hardware for Apple products. The team in Israel is looking for Advanced Optics Design engineer who will be at the center of a team responsible for end-to-end design, production and testing of high quality micro-optic components. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of optical design, testing and device fabrication.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience with physical optics simulations (time/frequency domain)
  • Proficiency in one or more scientific computer languages (e.g. Matlab, Mathematica, C/C++/C#, Python, etc) for design and modeling of optical systems, data exploration and analysis
  • Working knowledge of Optics concepts
  • Creative/analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Advantage: thorough understanding of diffractive optics
  • Advantage: design and optimization of nano-photonic structures
  • Advantage: knowledge about MEMS/semiconductor fabrication processes


Involved with all phases of execution of dedication micro-optic elements, from initial concept through prototype to mass-production Working with vendors to develop and fine-tune fabrication processes Defining optical testing strategies (for prototypes and mass-production) Interacting with a broad range of teams and fields to successfully integrate components within Apple products

Education & Experience

M.Sc./ Ph.D. in Electro-Optics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering

Additional Requirements
