Apple has an opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer to lead the investigation of advanced optical coatings to support roadmap development and integration of Apple’s extraordinary products. We work with both suppliers and internal, diverse, and multi-functional teams to craft the imaging, sensing, and display related technologies that go into Apple products. Our Panel Process and Optics team features a diverse engineering roster including optical, material, and product design engineers as well as human perception experts, and experimental physicists. We work quickly and are collectively driven to own our piece to drive technology forward. We know the ideal candidate needs to be creatively flexible and have the ability to problem solve outside of their respective technical area.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong technical background in optics, thin films, or materials
  • In-depth knowledge of thin film optical coating design, equipment, process, and characterization.
  • Knowledgeable of thin film deposition and metrology methods (ex. PVD, CVD, ALD, wet processing, spectroscopy, ellipsometry, interferometer, XPS, SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD) with hands-on experience in failure analysis.
  • Proficient in optical system design, tolerance study and multi-variable optimization.
  • Creativity and out-of-box thinking in solving problems.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English
  • Proficient and well organized in documentation and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Hands-on experience and consistent record in relevant areas in optical coating industry, advanced process technology development, and associated equipment is ideal
  • Experience leading domestic and international vendors is ideal

Description

We are looking for an outstanding engineer to find opportunities areas where optical coatings can improve performance and customer experience. This role involves conducting thorough investigations to uncover areas for improvement, and then crafting solutions to integrate these coatings on our extraordinary products. We take pride in innovation, and we need you to identify technologies that enable desired optical coating performance. Then, taking ownership to drive these innovations from R&D to execution on real products while working with cross-functional partners and external vendors.
