Apple Manufacturing Quality Management team is seeking a strong data automation engineer to drive data initiatives in China. Apple is a data-centric company where many critical decisions are made based on data. The completeness, accuracy and timeliness of data has huge implication to our decision-making. Every shipped Apple product undergoes rigorous testing at the factory to ensure the best customer experience. The MQM team manages the collection and reporting of all manufacturing assembly and test data. We are looking for a strong engineer to drive data initiatives, both on ingestion and analytics. Key Qualifications

  • Working experience interacting with and supporting large scale enterprise data systems involving ingestion, extraction, transformation, loading, storage, analysis and reporting
  • Proficiency in interacting with terminal based applications via shell scripts, text parsers like awk and sed, and console based administration of users, systems and network configuration on Unix/Linux OS based servers
  • Strong proficiency in script automation in one or more languages viz. Unix shell scripts, Python, JS, Perl and the likes to automate repetitive debugging, information sourcing or deployment tasks
  • Strong SQL experience writing queries within large-scale database environments including but not limited to structured (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and schema-less systems (MongoDB and Cassandra)
  • Familiarity with parsing large scale JSON records towards data mining via aggregation, pattern matching & extraction and subsetting methods in SQL or structured code (Python or Node)
  • Big Data experience in accessing and running scripts against Hive, Druid, Hbase is an added bonus
  • Experience in Data Science principles (mining, extraction, factoring & sub-setting, filtering, exploratory analysis via plotting and reporting) along with predictive statistics applications in the domains of ML, AI and Neural Nets is a plus
  • Comprehension of Industry 4.0 and Industrial IOT principles, methods and technologies is a plus

Description

You should have a track record and passion for understand business needs, problem solving and developing solutions that drive results. You will be partnering with cross-functional teams to define and implement processes that ensure timely and accurate ingestion of data. You should be driven, organized and detail oriented, communicates with ease at all levels, thrive in an ambiguous environment, adept at facilitating actions and resolving conflicts, manages through relationships and influence, and maintain a positive aptitude. We look for candidates that can maintain “grace under fire” and have a sense of fun about everything they do - Engage with product, test and assembly teams to understand product data needs - Understand and articulate implications of factory processes on data completeness and accuracy - Understand Apple data standards and specifications for product, process and facilities data ingestion - Engage with Apple equipment suppliers, contract manufacturers and internal teams to drive integration, and adoption of data specs towards continuous data ingestion - Understand the Apple data collection infrastructure and ecosystem so as to develop debugging scripts and tools to troubleshoot data ingestion, data quality, and reporting exceptions - Root cause data issues and drive corrective actions in the data ingestion pipeline from the data source through the analysis and reporting systems - Be comfortable with handling very large datasets, in the order of millions of records across multiple systems in the data pipeline - Assist with the deployment of software and services across the data pipeline

Education & Experience

Bachelor with 7+ years experience, or Masters with 5+ years experience, Engineering Degree in the Information Technology domain
