Government Affairs Manager - Japan

As an experienced GA Manager, you will join our great team to serve millions of Apple device users in Japan, and help to grow the business.
As part of the team, Government Affairs Manager engages in planning and implementing the GA Japan strategy. You will:
・Provide counsel, guidance and strategically focused planning to support internal stakeholders for Apple’s business and operation in Japan;
・Monitor regulatory and general policy developments in the country that may impact Apple’s business and operation;
・Represent Apple before these bodies;
・Identify and approach the key government agencies closely related to Apple’s businesses and operation in Japan;
・Regularly engage and coordinate with the key stakeholders in the government to secure the government approval, policy support and regulatory permits;
・Assist in interpreting the laws and regulations, and provide GA’s proposal for the corporate executives;
・Monitor the changes of the public policies, organization structure, and decision making process;
・Update the overall relationship portfolio and identify meaningful stakeholders and key figures;
・Assist in scheduling corporate executives’ visits;
・Support and work with internal partners for communication and all other necessary issues; and
・Take lead to connect with global, regional and local industry and trade associations.
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in law, public policy or political science, economics or international relations. Advanced degree preferred.
- Expertise in government affairs, coupled with the ability to identify pertinent challenges and opportunities that matter to Apple, and the capacity to devise and execute the country’s GA strategy.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in Japanese and English, which include:Skills in drafting business and policy documents with exceptional accuracy and the ability to read and comprehend extensive volumes of documents / Skills in leading and facilitating communication with government officials and internal partners.
- Ability to promptly understand and effectively communicate the implications of complex situations for the company.
- Ability to build informal working groups and teams internally and externally to address key issues in Japan. This includes an ability to develop strong internal relationships to effectively leverage available resources and assets.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and pressurized environment.
- Effective, prompt, and decisive response capabilities, even in uncertain or ambiguous situations.
- Candidate must demonstrate a profound sense of accountability and ownership of their tasks; be highly flexible; consistently exercise sound judgement; have a significant level of self-motivating for driving results; be very resourceful; and have ability to prioritize and manage work with limited direct supervision.
- Prior working experience in the government organization that engages with the private sector or in multi-national corporations in Japan.
- Significant experience in working with governments, legislatures and regulatory agencies and industry associations of Japan.
- General understanding and experience in government relations in Japan preferably with significant experience in the ICT sector.
